Russian: A toast to – Lubeh (Давай за – Любэ)

Hello,

Today we want to introduce you to an outstanding Russian musical group Lubeh/Lyube (Любэ). And today we’ll listen to one of the strongest their song “A toast to..” (Давай за…) – theme from the “Spetsnaz” (Special Forces) television miniseries. Every time when I listen to the song I have goose bumps on my skin…

So today we are listening to the song “A toast to..” (Давай за…) and it comes with a clip from the movie “Specnaz”.

For all our readers this song must be translated!

Here is one of the best translations what we found on it:

With grey clouds the sky is veiled
Nerves tensed such as guitar strings
Rain drumming from morning to night
Frozen time seems an eternity
We assualt from all directions
Tanks, infnatry, artillery’s fire
They are killing us, but we’re surviving
And once again, we throw ourselves in an attack

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those, who were with us back then
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
We’ll remember those who were with us back then

The sky above us, in leaden clouds
Lies low in cold mists
We’d like to believe that everything’s over
If only the wounded comrade could survive
Wait up bro, don’t die yet
You will live long and happily
We will dance at your wedding
And you’ll raise your kids up in the sky

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home

A toast to them, a toast to us
To Siberia and to the Caucasus
To the lights of far-away cities
And to friends, and to love
A toast to them, a toast to us
And to the Paras, and to the Spetznas
To war honors
Come on, lets raise it, friend

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those, who were with us back then
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
We’ll remember those who were with us back then

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home

In old album, I found a picture
Grandpa, what a man, commander of Red Army
Signed “For son to remeber, Berlin 1945”
Passed century flashbacks
The smell of unmowed grass in the dawn,
Moans of scorched earth from bombardments
Pair of old soldier’s boots
New wars will replace the old ones

A toast to life
A toast to those
A toast to life
Let’s remember those who were with us

Russia: Beautiful Karelian Republic!

Hello,

One of our very good readers David from Finland gave me a link to this video in the news website Russia Today! It is a very good video about the Republic Karelia. The Karelian Republic is situated in the North-West part of Russia.

There are about 27,000 rivers in Karelia.
There are 60,000 lakes in Karelia.
Natural resources of the republic include iron ore, diamonds, vanadium, molybdenum, and others.

Historically, Karelia was a region to the Northwest of Russia, East of present-day Finland, controlled by the Novgorod Republic. From the 13th century and onwards, various parts were conquered by Sweden, and incorporated into Swedish Karelia until they were lost to Russia by the Treaty of Nystad in 1721.

Also we think that it is one of most beautiful places in the world! 🙂

Thank you David.

The Birthday of Alexander Pushkin!

Hello,

Today is Birthday of Alexander Pushkin. We are reading in Wikipedia:

Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (Алекса́ндр Серге́евич Пу́шкин) (June 6 1799–February 10 1837) was a Russian Romantic author who is considered to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature.Pushkin pioneered the use of vernacular speech in his poems and plays, creating a style of storytelling—mixing drama, romance, and satire—associated with Russian literature ever since and greatly influencing later Russian writers. Russia: The Town of Nowhere! (Город Которого Нет)

Hello,

Today we’ll enjoy a beautiful song from Russian Series “Gangster Petersburg” (Бандитский Петербург), 2001. Igor Korneluk is author and singer. “The Town of Nowhere”(Город Которого Нет) is name of this song. Very beautiful video and English subtitles go along to this song. We love this song! Do you?

The Town of Nowhere

Night or total calm, having plunged for good,
Everlasting rain or eternal snow,
All the same, I am warmed by a limitless hope,
That far off, there’s a town, the Town of Nowhere.
There, a weary tramp will easily find share,
There, you are remembered and eagerly cared,
Day by day, confusing and loosing the trail,
I will plod to that town, the Town of Nowhere.

Refrain:
Burning for me, there is a hearth –
Of long gone truths an eternal sigil.
There’s but one step, one painful last,
But this one, last, lasts longer than living.

Who can tell me what Fortune keeps in store?
That we may not be given to know,
If beyond the verge of all squandered years,
I will finally see the Town of Nowhere.

Refrain:
Burning for me, there is a hearth –
Of long gone truths an eternal sigil.
There’s but one step, one painful last,
But this one, last, lasts longer than living.

Shooting Party!

Hello,

Recently, we’ve watch an excellent aerobatic-video “Waltz of Swifts“, where authors used music by Eugeny Doga from a very beautiful soviet movie “Мой ласковый и нежный зверь”(My Tender and Affectionate Beast), 1978. This movie is adaptation of Chekhov‘s story “Shooting Party” or sometimes they translate it as “A Hunting Accident”.

Russian aristocracy in her decadent glamor. Almost every frame is beautifully shot and movie fulfilled with magnificent music. The actors are playing professionally in best tradition of the old Soviet theatrical school. Story is simple. Based on the classic novel. Friendship, love, greed, death and pay-off. The main characters are a young detective, his friend and a beautiful young lady. She seems to be looking for money and enjoys flirting with rich men. Married and fooled old guy and in the same time promising her love to the young one. Her character is more complicated than it seems at first. She, I believe, loves young detective with all her heart but strong desire to be rich and powerful drags her towards old aristocratic money bags. She had been poor all her life and had been dreaming to be in the center people attention since her childhood. The final is dramatic and everybody pays for their sins. A-grade movie. Included in Golden collection of Soviet cinematography.

Today we’ll watch selected scenes of this movie.
