Russian Video: Moscow in 1908.

Hello,

Can you believe that 100 years ago they already were shooting movies? Yes, I know they did. Recently, we watched a pretty old Russian cartoon: Russian Video: Cartoon for Christmas Eve!, made in 1913. But when I watch this video about old Moscow made in 1908, I just hardly believe that they had cinema then. Russia in 1908 – so long hard bloody way to become Russia 2009…

Russian Video: Merry Christmas in Russian!

Merry Christmas!

Hello,

Now Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas today. A lot of people ask how that’s possible to celebrate Christmas after New Year. I must tell you that Russian Orthodox Church does not celebrate Christmas after New Year. Russian Orthodox Church celebrate Christmas before New Year. Just Russian Orthodox Church has her own calendar.

I think Kyle told about this paradox batter in this article: Russia: Still Have One More Christmas?

And we are going to watch today a very beautiful video from Russian Children’s musical center «Magic microphone». These very gifted kids live in Russian city Krasnoyarsk in Siberia (and we already watched their video, where they sing “Merry Christmas” for our Western readers).

For our readers who wants to know how to say Merry Christmas in Russian.

In Russia we don’t say exactly Merry Christmas! we wish each other Have your Christmas full of Light!

Russian Video: Irony of Fate (Ирония Судьбы) – 2!

Irony of Fate - 2

Hello,

At the New Year Eve we watched a kind romantic comedy of Soviet time made by director Eldar Ryazanov in 1975: The Irony Of Fate, Or Enjoy Your Bath (Ирония судьбы или С легким паром!). For next 30 years it was a tradition in Soviet Union at New Year Eve to watch this comedy. And in nowadays (2007) director Timur Bekmambetov and writers Emil Braginsky (idea) decided to make a continue of this very good movie. Were they successful or not I don’t know yet because I am going to watch this movie with Kyle for the first time just now. So we all will watch it for the first time. It must be interesting to watch the same actors in 30 years and to watch a new story about personages of The Irony Of Fate, Or Enjoy Your Bath (Ирония судьбы или С легким паром!). It’s interesting to see what difference in looking at life have film directors and writers – they are 30 years and two epochs apart! So let’s watch…

Russian Video: Medvedev's New Year Speech!

Hello,

Today here you can watch a New Year speech of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (with English translation). Our friend Marley (The Daily Bastardette) asked in a comment to Russian Video: Andriyanovka Is Getting Ready To New Years! article how it happened that people in Russia think that listening to Presidential Address at New Year Eve brings good luck for next year. I really never heard about such superstition in Russia. But yes, we always watch the New Year Presidential Address. I don’t know why but that is some mandatory at least for me…

First of all if you are listening to a Presidential New Year Address you always know exactly when the clock on Spasskay Tower of Moscow Kremlin starts to beat the 12 – and that is very very important because you need to make all your wishes during these twelve strikes and drink Champagne at the last stroke and then you can hope that your New Year wishes become true during the year.

The second that is just interesting what our President has to tell us. And our last presidents Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev do a very good job in their New Year Addresses. I never was disappointed in their speeches and now we proudly publish 2009 New Year Address by Dmitry Medvedev:

Best Wishes for New Year!

If you are reading this article I am sure you love to watch a little piece of life in other countries! I know how it feels like I myself adore to find out about life abroad. And watching videos is the best way for it. How we tell in Russian: Лучше один раз увидеть, чем 100 раз услышать (It’s better to see something once than to hear about it 100 times). Our video today is about preparation to New Year feast in one of Russian villages (Andriyanovka in Russia’s Tambov region).

For our readers who wants to look at Andriyanovka’s site:

http://andrianovka.ru/

They don’t have an English version yet so here you can to see their site translated by Yahoo.
