Russian Video: Valeriy Obodzinskiy – Eternal Spring!

Hello,

If you watched our yesterday video Russian Video: Moscow Spring (25th March) you can understand why I am in such spring mood. So today we recollect an old soviet song “Eternal Spring”, 1974. Singer is Valeriy Obodzinskiy (Валерий Ободзинский):

Just love the refrain of the song:

Три месяца лето, три месяца осень,
Три месяца зима и вечная весна.

Three months summer, three month autumn,
Three month winter and eternal spring.

Enjoy Spring!

Russian Video: Moscow Spring (25th March)!

Hello,

That is Spring in Moscow! Do you expect to see first spring flowers on this video? Maybe I’ll disappoint you but no flowers yet. But it’s the end of March and still snow here. But that is Spring: you feel it in the air, you smell it, you feel already warm sun beams on your cheek. That is Spring in Moscow!

For our readers who wants to know more:

We have a very good Russian writer who wrote mostly about nature: Mikhail Mikhailovich Prishvin (1873 – 1954). He wrote that there are three periods of spring: “Spring of Light”, “Spring of Water” and “Spring of Grass”… So it looks like we still in “Spring of Light” period! 😉

This unique Man survived three big wars. But he managed to save his inner light he diffused in life and his wonderful books. One of such books, an autobiographic story “Hunt For Happiness”, ends with a quotation from Leo Tolstoy’s book. Mikhail Prishvin could easily confirm the truth of the words: “A man is obliged to be happy. If he is unhappy he is to be blame for this. He must do everything he can to get rid of this discomfort or mistake. If a man is unhappy, he will face a lot of unsolved questions, such as, for what I live, what’s the need for this world and the like. But if he’s happy, thank you for nothing, and wish you the same”. We could not find any free Michail Prishvin’s stories translated in English in Internet, just can give you a link to Amazon where you can buy some of Michail Prishvin’s books in English.

Russian Video: Beauty and the Beast!

Hello,

I had to post this because it reminded me of when Svet and I went to see the Broadway Musical “Beauty and The Beast” very recently here in Moscow.

The cartoon is almost exactly the same as the play we saw.

It is in Russian and a blast to watch. It also is only about 4 and a half minutes long.

Russian Video: Republic Shkid (Movie)!

Hello,

We apologize for delaying our Movie for Weekend, there was a technical reason that caused it.

Now we are back in business and glad to watch together with you an old Soviet movie “Republic Shkid” (Республика ШКИД), 1966:

The film is based on the eponymous book, written by two former street gangsters – Grigori Belykh and Leonid Panteleyev. Film is set in the 1920s St. Petersburg, Russia. Streets of the city are full of the homeless boys. They are caught to be raised and educated at the correction school named after Dostoevsky. The boys are street smart and difficult. But the faculty stands up to the challenge. The teaches are being devoted and caring, and gradually win the respect of the most difficult kids. The school director (the actor:Sergei Yursky) is a refined intellectual, who becomes a role model for the boys (IMDb).

Watching such movies is one more way to feel that era… The book (on what based the movie) is semi-autobiographical, semi-fictitious account of the Dostoevsky school written by two former students accurately reflects the school’s life and V. N. Soroka-Rosinsky’s part in it

For our readers who wants to know more:

V. N. Soroka-Rosinsky [Vicknixor in the movie] (1882-1960) – innovative Soviet teacher, director of the Dostoevsky School for the reeducation of homeless and delinquent but clever teenage boys, Leningrad from 1920-1925. Examines his theoretical writings and describes his activities at the Dostoevsky School.

We found a very interesting site devoted The Republic Shkid (in Russian): Республика ШКиД: книга, фильм, школа.
