How we’ve recently promised you this weekend we will watch an old Russian full-length documentary video. A Man with a Movie Camera (Человек с киноаппаратом) was made as an experimental 1929 silent documentary film by Russian directorDziga Vertov, editor Elizaveta Svilova (who was also his wife), and his cinematographer, Mikhail Kaufman (also his brother). The idea behind this movie was to show life it is lived. This movie became a portrait of one day in big Soviet city. Really, there were three cities: Moscow, Kiev and Odessa.
The music what was used in this movie was composed from notes left by the director.
Today we will talk about Love! I think it would be great to talk about Love at Valentines Day but I found this nice cartoon just now and can not wait almost for a year to publish it. So let me introduce you “The Amorous Crow” (Влюбчивая ворона), made by Soyuzmultfilm in 1988. This cartoon made me think… and it’s good for both kids and grown people.
Do you like to watch old documentary videos? We do! That’s always interesting to see how people lived in old times, what their life was about… Today we are watching a part of full length documentary made in 1929 by by Soviet documentary film maker Dziga Vertov.
Today Yuri Gagarin would be 75 years old. Kyle already posted a very interesting video about Yuri Gagarin: From Russia: Yuri Gagarin – The First Human in Space! I highly recommend you to watch that video first. When you will be back I offer you to watch this beautiful musical video dedicated to Yuri Gagarin – a lot of old pictures from archive of Gagarin’s family and a beautiful song “The Pioneer Of Starry Tracks” in memory of Yuri Gagarin. The song was written in 1971 (Yuri Gagarin died in 1986) by very famous Russian composer Alexadra Pakhmutova.
In Russia we are still proud of this man. One city and a lot of streets and squares has his name, one asteroid and Moon’s crater has his name also…
