Russian Video: International No Tobacco Day in Russia!

“In the last 15 years alone, the number of smokers in Russia has doubled; the main increase was noticed among women and teenagers. Sociologists say the main reason for that are successful advertising campaigns by foreign tobacco companies that have flooded the Russian market after the collapse of Soviet Union.” (Russia Today)

So Now It’s time for NonSmoking advertisement! And to have it not once a year but every day!

Russian Video: Yuli Kim "A Song About Stars"

Today we are listening a beautiful song and watching a small part of nice soviet movie for kids “About Little Red Riding Hood”, 1977.

This movie is continue of famous Charles Perrault fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood”, the story starts in a year after Little Red Riding Hood was saved from evil Wolf’s belly.

But today we will not watch the movie we will just listen to “A Song About Stars”:

Lyrics by Yuli Kim
Translation by V. Chetin
Music Alexander Rybnikov

A Song About Stars

When you are in low spirit and lonely or if there is
A thing you cannot understand,
I’d rather you go visit a silver-haired stargazer.
Hes just at the reach of a hand.

He’s sure to have an answer to every worldly question:
He’s delved into three thousand books.
He’s scrutinized all heaven and callipered all planets,
And at them, will let you have a look.

There, far above, in the sky,
Scaring to say just how high,
Stars are, like ripened oranges, suspending,
Whereas betwixt and between
Fluffy trails up, stiltedly
Comets are, proud as peacocks, promenading.

And on the Moon, forward and back,
A bear’s on elephant back,
A lunar bear with clever azure eyes.
He has no hunch that we are, here,
Staring at him, admiring him,
Preoccupied, fairy tales reciting.

And sorrow wastes away as you keep on studying heav’n with
An aided or unaided eye.
The only rule, howe’er, is that neither snow nor rain there
Should be at this time outside.

And then among unmeasured possessions of the heaven,
You’re sure to find a star of yours.
That is, in the event that a perfectly fine weather
Sets in on the planet of Earth.

Somebody, high, high above,
Splattered some milk all about,
As a result, the Milky Way occurred,
And all along it, all along,
All by the plains full of pearls,
A crescent is sailing like a white pirogue.

And on the Moon, on the Moon
On a blue mo
und, a lunar mound,
Moon folk are watching, never rearing eyes,
A big sky-blue globe, the earth’s blue globe,
Cross the Moon sky o’er and o’er,
Splendidly setting down and sightly rising.

There’s neither rain nor snow or a sullen humid wind blast
At hours of serene dead of night.
The sky reveals wide open unfathomed splendent compass
For joyful inquisitive eyes.

The riches of the cosmos are glimmering like breathing,
The Zenith is buzzing a bit.
In fact, there are some people who can distinctly hear
A star to another star speak:

-Evening! – Evening!
-Glittering? – Glittering.
-Whats the time? – Midnight or around
Down on the Earth at this hour,
We can be seen best of all.
-And how about kids? – Must be sleeping sound

Wholesomely, from the heart,
Children are sleeping at night,
Joyfully sleeping both in prams and cradles.
May children dream dreams of theirs
How, on the Moon, a lunar bear
All to himself is telling fairy tales.
All to himself is telling fairy tales.

And if you are not sleeping, I’ll share with you, by secret,
A really astonishing thing:
Here am I counting stars, but their number has no limit
And that’s the whole story, indeed.

Look up through zenith tubes and reveal as well as I do
Remote lands and alien worlds,
That is, in the event that a perfectly fine weather
Sets in on the planet of Earth.

Somebody, high, high above,
Splattered some milk all about,
As a result the Milky Way occurred,
And all along it, all along,
Crossing the plains full of pearls,
A crescent is sailing like a white pirogue.

And on the Moon, on the Moon
On a blue mound, a lunar mound,
Moon folk are watching, never rearing eyes,
A big sky-blue globe, the earth’s blue globe
Cross nightly skies o’er and o’er,
Splendidly setting down and sightly rising..

Dmitry Medvedev: Chances of new World War exist… (Russian president gives his view on WWII)

We don’t publish speeches and interviews with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev too often. But this one – I think is very important. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev gave an interview for Russian newspaper “Izvestia”.

That is a long interview almost 30 minutes video. They brought up different questions mostly about World War II and it was very interesting to hear opinion of such intelligent person as Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. I personally think that the whole interview is worth watching.

Izvestia: During Perestroika when the people of the Soviet Union opened its doors to the world, you could feel that civilizations had grown up, the world order had matured and nothing like World War II would ever happen again. But 20 years later, the world is still torn apart by conflict. Do you think there is at least a hypothetic possibility of a military conflict that would be similar to World War II in scale?

Dmitry Medvedev: Unfortunately, such a conflict is possible, because there are all sorts of countries on our planet, and they have all sorts of interests. This planet has a huge amount of weapons, and there are people who still consider war as a means for solving their political problems. After all, accidents will happen. So we must be prepared….
