Russian Video: Mary Poppins, Goodbye! (Movie)

Russian Video: Mary Poppins, Goodbye! (Movie)Hello,

There are some Russian/Soviet movies for kids what I missed in my childhood. Really, they were made after my childhood. But I often hear that they are very good movies. And a musical movie “Mary Poppins, Goodbye!” (1983) is one of such.

How you can guess this movie is based on a Pamela L. Travers stories. And her stories were my favorite by far in my childhood. The movie has two parts: “Lady Perfection” “Week ends on Wednesday” and we will watch both of them with English subtitles this weekend!

Lady Perfection

Week ends on Wednesday

So we just watched one more beautiful Russian movie base on stories of English writers. Do you remember that we already published all Russian Sherlock Holmes series with English subtitles: Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson on Russian Video from Russia!

Russian Video: Tomorrow Was The War (Movie)!

Hello,

There was The Day of Mourning and Commemoration(22 June) this week. And for this weekend we picked up a movie with a title “Tomorrow Was The War” (Завтра была война). One more movie based on Boris Visiliev’s novels (we already watched “The Dawns Here Are Quiet”). That is not a movie about The War but that is drama about little town, school-pupils and school-teachers and their life one year before The War.

This movie gives much, too much, question after question, where no answer is absolute. It is movie about The Life, about the wish to live and about the fear of it. It describes the life of some young Sowjets before the break of the Nazi invasion, where the Sowjet presence is depicted with the real touch of emotions. As a typical Sowjet (Russian) movie the feeling and the play of the actors dominates, but because of the confrontation between young and old, in between the young ones and the old ones, there is no single cadre, which gives me a second of time to relax and I jump form one personage into another.” (kansaj from Tokyo)

Movie "Home" on Russian Video from Russia!

Hello,

For this weekend we are watching a great movie. This movie was not made in Russia and that is not more about Russia than any another country in the world. This movie “Home” is made by two French masters: director Luke Besson and photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand. And this movie is about our planet Earth. It shows how beautiful it is and how close we can be to destroy all this beauty.

We already watched this movie, we already showed to our readers a beautiful video about premiere of the movie Home here in Moscow, Russia.

Although this movie is not about Russia we feel strong enough about this movie that we feel everybody should see it!

Thank You!

Russian version of movie Home you can watch here.

Russian Video: Zhenya, Zhenechka i 'Katyusha' (Movie)!

Russian Video: Zhenya, Zhenechka i 'Katyusha'(Movie)
Hello,

This weekend we continue watching movies about WWII (or Great Patriotic War how we call it in Russia). Yes, here in Russia we have a lot of movies about WWII. Some of them we’ve already watched some of them we’ll watch later.

The theme of WWII is very important in Russian culture. 27 millions died cause of WWII, every family of former USSR has it’s own memory of WWII and we don’t want to forget about it.

Russian movies about WWII are very unique. You will not see a superhero there. Most of them are movies about just life of usual people in the war.

Today we are watching a very good movie “Zhenya, Zhenechka and ‘Katyusha'” (Женя, Женечка и ‘Катюша’). This movie is a story about adventures and love of a nerd in the war. (Yes, you can meet very different people in the war.)

You can believe me or not but all this adventures are true, they really happened at the end of WWII.

The story was told by Vladimir Motyl and Bulat Okudzhava.

Director of the movie Vladimir Motyl (we already know him as director of movie The White Sun of the Desert)

Original Music by Isaak Shvarts

Oleg Dal as Zhenya Kolyshkin
Galina Figlovskaya as Zhenechka Zemlyanikina

Russian Video: Only Old Men Are Going to Battle (Movie)!

Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 (how we call WWII in Russia) and we are watching one of the best movies Only Old Men Are Going to Battle (В бой идут одни “старики”), by Leonid Bukov, 1973.

Sometimes age has nothing to do with experience. Watch this movie to find out how in a short span of time the twenty year old pilots can loose the title “wet behind the ears” and gain the battle respected title of “old men”.

Russian Video: The Dawns Here Are Quiet (Movie)

The Dawns Here Are Quiet

All TV-channels in Russia show us a lot of movies about the Great Patriotic War (that’s how we call WWII) at the 9th of May (Victory Day).

Today we will watch one of classic Russian movies about the Great Patriotic War: The dawns here are quiet (А зори здесь тихие), 1972. Movie was directed by Stanislav Rostotsky based on Boris Vasilyev’s novel of the same name This film was nominated for an Oscar as “Best Foreign Film” in 1973.

The region was Karelia, Russia in 1942 during WWII. The scene begins in a railway station far from the front line, senior sergeant Vaskov is stationed with a group of young female (yes, female!) who are anti-aircraft gunners. Vaskov is not used to these “gunners”. They are active and playful personalities. Therefore he has clashes with the gunners over daily issues. But Vaskov, being the only man in the village, has to accommodate, no matter what the situation.

One day, two German paratroopers appear in the forest near their garrison….

You must watch to find out if female gunners saved the day:

Maybe after watching this movie you understand these words from one of the most powerful Russian song “Victory Day”: This is joy with tears in our eyes…

But such movies must be watched … because Nobody is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!

Russian Video: The White Sun of the Desert (Movie)!

Hello,

It’s Saturday so it’s time for us to watch a good old Russian movie with English subtitles. Today it will be an old Soviet classic movie: Beloe solntse pustini (The White Sun of the Desert), 1969.

Wikipedia tells about this movie:”White Sun of the Desert is one of the most popular Russian films of all time. Its blend of action, comedy, music and drama has made it wildly successful and it has since achieved the status of a cult film in Soviet and Russian culture.

The movie “White Sun of the Desert” is said to bring good luck to Russian cosmonauts. They always watch it prior to blast off.

So it’s definitely worth to watch it:

Plot: The setting is the east shore of the Caspian Sea (today’s Turkmenistan) where the Red Army soldier Fyodor Sukhov has been fighting the Civil War in Russian Asia for a number of years. After being hospitalised and then demobbed, he sets off home to join his wife, only to be caught up in a desert fight between a Red Army cavalry unit and Basmachi guerrillas. The cavalry unit commander, Rahimov, “convinces” Sukhov to help, temporarily, with the protection of abandoned women of the Basmachi guerilla leader Abdullah’s harem. Leaving a young Red Army soldier, Petrukha, to assist Sukhov with the task, Rahimov and his cavalry unit set out to pursue fleeing Abdullah.

Sukhov and women from Abdullah’s harem return to a nearby shore town. Soon, looking for a seaway across the border, Abdullah and his gang come to the same town…(Wikipedia)
