Russian Video: Ballad of a Hussar (one more song)!

Hello,

I think that today we will listen to one more song from Ballad of a Hussar movie. Now it will be a funny song one of my most favorite!

What is the song about?

Some King lived a very full life: he loved wine, war and women and even when Death came for him he fought her — but Death was “treacherous” and finally caught him… and the old reprobate died as he lived!

For our Russian readers I recommend a very interesting article about history of this movie.

And maybe it’s interesting to watch a full version of this movie but only in Russian – sorry.

That’s really a nice idea that when Death comes you can fool and fight her (sometimes)! 🙂

Best wishes,

Russian Video: Ballad of a Hussar!

Hello,

Recently we talked about an old Soviet movie: Ballad of a Hussar (Гусарская баллада), 1962.

Today I want to show you one more scene from this great movie and of course with a Good Song! The Russian name of this song is “Давным-давно” and I would translate it like “Long time ago”. That is typical marching song with refrain “Давным-давно, давным-давно, давным-давно…”

Best wishes, think after this song we all feel like Hussars, what means pretty good! And if someone doesn’t feel good enough they for sure should watch this video again! 😉

Russian Video: Lullaby to Svetlana!

Hello,

Yesterday we were listening to a beautiful music by a street guitarist. Today we will listen this song and watch a fragment of original movie:

For our reader who is intrigued of this fragment we’ll tell more about this old soviet movie:

Ballad of a Hussar (Гусарская баллада), 1962 was directed by outstanding Soviet-Russian director Eldar Ryazanov and screenplay was written by Aleksandr Gladkov:

This musical comedy takes place during the Napoleonic invasion of Russia. Young woman Shura (Larisa Golubkina) decides to teach her boorish, braggadocio suitor Rzhevsky (Yuri Yakovlev) a lesson in humility by dressing herself as a man, joining the army and becoming a hero. – That is about the movie.

But the most amazing thing about this movie: it tells us a real story!

Nadezhda Andreyevna Durova (Russian: Надежда Андреевна Дурова) also known as Alexander Durov, Alexander Sokolov and Alexander Andreevich Alexandrov (1783, Kiev – March 21, 1866, Yelabuga ) was a woman who became a decorated soldier in the Russian cavalry during the Napoleonic wars. She was the first known female officer in the Russian military. Her memoir is a significant document of its era because few junior officers of the Napoleonic wars published their experiences and The Cavalry Maiden is one of the earliest autobiographies in the Russian language.
You can read more about Nadezhda Durova in Wikipedia.

As for the song what we just heard:

The music is composed by Tikhon Khrennikov, lyrics by Aleksandr Gladkov.

The main character Shura is going to leave home and go to the Russian Army fight against Napoleon’s Army. She is singing the last Lullaby Song to her doll Svetlana .

Best wishes and maybe it would be nice to recollect your favorite lullaby song,
