Every June we are getting very excited because of Moscow International Film Festival.

This year it’s already the 31st Moscow International Film Festival and as every time we are going to watch as many movies as we can because we really love it.

No Cossack would go into battle without getting a blessing in church.

The Cossack army fought in almost all the wars waged by the Russian Empire. After the revolution of 1917, a third of the Don Cossacks – around half a million people – were killed or deported by the Bolsheviks. But now the Cossack host here on the Don is seeing a revival.

“We live in the modern world, we run businesses, and we don’t ride around with sabers. But we’ve kept the Cossack spirit, our Orthodox faith, our love for the Don, and loyalty to Russia,” says Vladimir Voronin. (Link)

From what we read, the Cossacks are an ancient amazing people that have loved and fought for Mother Russia to the death – many times…

Russian Video: The White Sea Catamaran Journey!

That is good to have friends and that is great when your friends travel a lot! We have such friends and yesterday they showed us this beautiful video (slide-show) what they made in memory of their last year trip on July on The White Sea on catamarans. I asked them to give me this video and now we have the first show of this video in Internet!

Russian Video: Farewell Maslenitsa, Hello Spring!

Last Sunday we said Good bye to Maslenica and met the First day of Spring! I found a very good home-made video about the Farewell to Maslenitsa. This video was made a year ago when the last day of Maslenitsa was the 8th of March (The International Day of Women. A very important holiday in Russia). So now you understand why women and girls got tulips in the video. You don’t need my comments for this video any more. It’s just excellent, one of the best home-made videos what I ever watched.

Best wishes and maybe to have picnic next Sunday would be a good idea?

Russian Video: Ice Swimmers (Моржи) in Russia!

Hello,

Today we continue watching unusual people! Have you ever swam outdoor in winter? I, never. But in Russia we have people who do it regularly, we call them моржи (морж – walrus). They really believe that ice swimming is good for them, so do I. I believe that for them it’s possibly good but not for everybody. But let’s better watch this documentary:

Do you know some ice swimming lover? Do you think to swim in ice-cold water is good for you? for everybody?
