Russian Video: Lullaby to Svetlana!

Hello,

Yesterday we were listening to a beautiful music by a street guitarist. Today we will listen this song and watch a fragment of original movie:

For our reader who is intrigued of this fragment we’ll tell more about this old soviet movie:

Ballad of a Hussar (Гусарская баллада), 1962 was directed by outstanding Soviet-Russian director Eldar Ryazanov and screenplay was written by Aleksandr Gladkov:

This musical comedy takes place during the Napoleonic invasion of Russia. Young woman Shura (Larisa Golubkina) decides to teach her boorish, braggadocio suitor Rzhevsky (Yuri Yakovlev) a lesson in humility by dressing herself as a man, joining the army and becoming a hero. – That is about the movie.

But the most amazing thing about this movie: it tells us a real story!

Nadezhda Andreyevna Durova (Russian: Надежда Андреевна Дурова) also known as Alexander Durov, Alexander Sokolov and Alexander Andreevich Alexandrov (1783, Kiev – March 21, 1866, Yelabuga ) was a woman who became a decorated soldier in the Russian cavalry during the Napoleonic wars. She was the first known female officer in the Russian military. Her memoir is a significant document of its era because few junior officers of the Napoleonic wars published their experiences and The Cavalry Maiden is one of the earliest autobiographies in the Russian language.
You can read more about Nadezhda Durova in Wikipedia.

As for the song what we just heard:

The music is composed by Tikhon Khrennikov, lyrics by Aleksandr Gladkov.

The main character Shura is going to leave home and go to the Russian Army fight against Napoleon’s Army. She is singing the last Lullaby Song to her doll Svetlana .

Best wishes and maybe it would be nice to recollect your favorite lullaby song,

Russian Video: At the Port(Soviet Musical Cartoon)!

Hello,

Today we enjoy an Old Soviet cartoon: At the Port”. It was made by Soyuzmultfilm in 1975.

This musical cartoon is just about children who walked in the port and have learned a lot of interesting things. A lot of good songs [what maybe now are considered like retro] made us smile!

In the Port (Part 1)

In the Port (Part 2)

For our readers who wants to know more: this cartoon is:

  • directed by Inessa Kovalevskaya (remember this name we will watch her others cartoons also!);
  • written by Sergei Kozlov, Vladimir Valutsky;
  • music by Mark Minkov;
  • words (poems) by Sergei Kozlov, Oleg Anofriyev

And for our readers we translated the song from this cartoon what we love the best:”The Dolphins”

The ships on the high seas like birds in the wild,
The bold people are taken in unknown space by waves,
And they swim somewhere, following the sunny sunset,
And funny dolphins accompany ships.

Dolphins are kind and dolphins are wet,
They look at you by their smart eyes.
Dolphins are modest and dolphins are black,
They ask to tell them a fairy tale.

There is a mysterious island in the azure ocean,
But it is not so easy for sailors to find it in a fog,
Only one who believes in a fairy tale will find ashore among the waves,
Only those who himself is able to tell people fairy tales.

Dolphins are kind and dolphins are wet,
They look at you by their smart eyes.
Dolphins are modest and dolphins are black,
They ask to tell them a fairy tale.

Best wishes and maybe it’s a good idea to reread some fairy tale to be able to tell someone it:)

Russian Video: Saviour's Transfiguration (The Apple Feast)!

Hello,

Today we have one of the most important Orthodox Holidays: Saviour’s Transfiguration (Праздник Преображения Господня), popularly known in Russia as the Apples Feast (Яблочный спас/Yablochnyi Spas):

This important event in Christ’s life on earth occurred not long before His Crucifixion. In order to sustain His disciples’ faith when they would see Him suffering, the Lord first showed them His divine glory. Taking along three of His disciples – Peter, John and James, the Lord ascended a high mountain, called Mount Tabor, to pray. While Christ was praying, the disciples fell asleep from fatigue. When they awoke, they saw that Christ was transfigured: His face shone like the sun, while His garments had become radiant as light. Two prophets – Moses and Elias – appeared to Him in their heavenly glory and spoke with Him about His forthcoming suffering and death. Seeing all this, the disciples’ hearts were filled with extraordinary joy. When they saw that the prophets were about to withdraw from Christ, Peter, trying to hold them back, cried out: “Lord! It is good for us to be here; if You wish, we will make three tents here: one for You, one for Moses and one for Elias.”

Suddenly a bright cloud enveloped them and out of the cloud they heard the voice of God the Father: “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!” In great fear the disciples fell to the ground.

Christ came and touched them, and said: “Arise and do not be afraid.” The disciples arose and saw Christ in His usual appearance. Through His glorious Transfiguration the Lord also showed us how mankind will appear in future life, in the Heavenly Kingdom, and how our entire world will then be transfigured.

In Russian folklore the feast of the Second Saviour is associated with the custom of eating apples and other fruits that had been blessed in church, and with the following events in nature:

  • Ripe apples are picked on this day and blessed in church.
  • The nights are becoming cold.
  • The cranes begin to fly away.

It is customary not to eat any fruits or vegetables before the Second Saviour, except cucumbers.

On the feast of the Second Saviour even a beggar will eat an apple.Read more about all Three Saviours here.

Today we watch two videos:

Blessing of First Fruits” for the year. Transfiguration

This is a very unique video: how they celebrate Saviour’s Transfiguration in the Church of Our Saviour’s Transfiguration. This video is full of light: in the nature and in the faces of kids (in Sunday’s Church School), in voices of pray and in the site of the Church what was raised from ruins! (This long video is in Russian but we hope it will be interesting for you!)

Best wishes and since we are allowed to eat apples now please don’t forget “An apple a day keeps doctor away!

Russian Video: Nastia Liukin – Russian-American gymnast in Olympics 2008!

Hello,

The same like you we like to watch Beijing Olympics. And Gymnastics is one of the most beautiful and interesting sports there. My favorite Rhythmic Gymnastics will start only 21st of August… So today we will talk about Artistic Gymnastic and watch together this great video from Beijing Olympics about “Trials Night 1” of Nastia Liukin (Настя Люкина). [We apologize to all our readers who did not see this video YouTube removed it today… So we put two another videos about Nastia Liukin here.

First video: The Road to the Gold Medal! (That’s always interesting to watch how people get to it!):

Nastia Liukin won all-around gold at Beijing Olympics!

Second video is one of most incredible: Nastia Liukin Balance Beam 2008

Nastia Liukin won all-around gold at Beijing Olympics!

For our readers who wants to know more about Nastia Liukin:

Nastia Liukin was born on October 30, 1989 in Moscow, Russian SFSR, USSR. She is the only child of two former Soviet champion gymnasts: 1988 Summer Olympics gold medalist Valeri Liukin and 1987 event World Champion in rhythmic gymnastics, Anna Kotchneva. Her nickname Nastia is a Russian diminutive for Anastasia.

The family moved to the United States when Liukin was two and a half years old, after the breakup of the Soviet Union, and settled first in New Orleans before moving to Texas. In 1994, Valeri Liukin teamed with another former Soviet champion athlete, Evgeny Marchenko, to open the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy (WOGA) in Plano.

Liukin began gymnastics at the age of three because she was “always hanging around in the gym” with her parents, who could not afford a babysitter to look after her while they were working as coaches. Liukin’s parents initially did not aspire for their daughter to become a gymnast, knowing the pressure of high-level competition firsthand, but relented when they noticed her aptitude for the sport….

She is the 2008 Olympic individual all-around gold medalist, the 2005 and 2007 World Champion on the balance beam, and the 2005 World Champion on the uneven bars. With nine World Championships medals, seven of them individual, Liukin is tied with Shannon Miller as having won the most World Championship medals of any American gymnast in history.

You can read more about Nastia Liukin in
1) Wikipedia;
2) About.Com;
3) or even to visit Nastia’s official site

We could tell you about this incredible girl again and again… But we want to end this article with this Nastia’s words. Like Real Artist in the Sport she tells:“I do this for myself. I like the sport. I like everything about it”.

Best wishes and we think that’s very important to have something in life about what you could tell “I do this for myself. I like everything about it.”

As for us: our blogs are such thing in life about what we could tell “We do this for ourselves and like everything about it!”
