Russian Video: Lullaby to Svetlana!

Hello,

Yesterday we were listening to a beautiful music by a street guitarist. Today we will listen this song and watch a fragment of original movie:

For our reader who is intrigued of this fragment we’ll tell more about this old soviet movie:

Ballad of a Hussar (Гусарская баллада), 1962 was directed by outstanding Soviet-Russian director Eldar Ryazanov and screenplay was written by Aleksandr Gladkov:

This musical comedy takes place during the Napoleonic invasion of Russia. Young woman Shura (Larisa Golubkina) decides to teach her boorish, braggadocio suitor Rzhevsky (Yuri Yakovlev) a lesson in humility by dressing herself as a man, joining the army and becoming a hero. – That is about the movie.

But the most amazing thing about this movie: it tells us a real story!

Nadezhda Andreyevna Durova (Russian: Надежда Андреевна Дурова) also known as Alexander Durov, Alexander Sokolov and Alexander Andreevich Alexandrov (1783, Kiev – March 21, 1866, Yelabuga ) was a woman who became a decorated soldier in the Russian cavalry during the Napoleonic wars. She was the first known female officer in the Russian military. Her memoir is a significant document of its era because few junior officers of the Napoleonic wars published their experiences and The Cavalry Maiden is one of the earliest autobiographies in the Russian language.
You can read more about Nadezhda Durova in Wikipedia.

As for the song what we just heard:

The music is composed by Tikhon Khrennikov, lyrics by Aleksandr Gladkov.

The main character Shura is going to leave home and go to the Russian Army fight against Napoleon’s Army. She is singing the last Lullaby Song to her doll Svetlana .

Best wishes and maybe it would be nice to recollect your favorite lullaby song,
Svet and Kyle

comments always welcome.

Right here, anonymous. No problem, if you know Russian:

Лунные поляны ночь как день светла
Спи моя Светлана спи как я спала
    В уголок подушки носиком уткнись
Звезды как веснушки мирно светят вниз
    Лунный сад листвою тихо шелестит
Скоро день настанет что-то он сулит
    Догорает свечка догорит дотла
Спи мое сердечко ночь как день светла
    Догорает свечка догорит дотла
Спи мое сердечко ночь как день светла

Of all the lullabies, there’s the Vitas’ “Lullaby” (entirely composed and sung by Vitas in 2007) The song lyrics say:

    “Sleep, baby boy, fall asleep,
    May dreams come to you.
A pink elephant is on the garden,
    Hush, hush, my baby.
A pink elephant is on the garden,
    Hush, hush, my baby.

    Sleep, baby girl, fall asleep,
    May dreams come to you.
A golden fish is in a pond,
    Hush, hush, little baby.
A golden fish is in a pond,
    Hush, hush, little baby.”

Would you please post the Vitas’ video of “Lullaby”?

    Thanks!
