Russian Video: Nikolai Gogol – 200th Anniversary!

The first of April is a birthday of Nikolai Vasilevich Gogol outstanding Russian write. This year is his 200th anniversary. UNESCO called this 2009 year is a year of Nikolai Gogol (You can read a very interesting article about him on UNESCO site.) Next few days we are going to publish some movies and cartoons what were created as adaptation his novels, plays and short stories.

Today we’ll watch a cute cartoon what will explain you a story “The Overcoat” by Gogol. Later we’ll watch a full length old silent movie “The Overcoat“. So this cartoon will help you!

Russian Video: Vote Earth for Earth Hour!

Have you watched the video about “The Earth Hour“?

Russia participate in it! This year, Russia has officially joined the Earth Hour for the first time. In Moscow, the start of the event will be conducted by Mayor Yury Luzhkov, who will switch off the circuit breaker of the Moscow government building.

We authors of the blog “Russian Video from Russia” Svet and Kyle Keeton will participate too. We are planning to turn off light and come out to see how it will work in Moscow, maybe we will shout a video ;).

Russian Video: Beauty and the Beast!

I had to post this because it reminded me of when Svet and I went to see the Broadway Musical “Beauty and The Beast” very recently here in Moscow.

The cartoon is almost exactly the same as the play we saw.

Russian Video: The Mermaid Cartoon by Alexandr Petrov!

Today we continue watching masterpieces by Aleksander Petrov. The cartoon “The Mermaid”(Русалка) was made by Alexander Petrov in 1996. As always Alexander Petrov created his wonderful cartoon in paint on glass animation style.

Today we will talk about Love! I think it would be great to talk about Love at Valentines Day but I found this nice cartoon just now and can not wait almost for a year to publish it. So let me introduce you “The Amorous Crow” (Влюбчивая ворона), made by Soyuzmultfilm in 1988. This cartoon made me think… and it’s good for both kids and grown people.

Russian Video: The Cow (Korova) A Cartoon by Alexander Petrov!

Recently, when we watched a beautiful video from Dolphin (Russian Video: Dolphin (Snow)!) when a man was panting on glass I remembered about Alexander Petrov (a movie director who makes his famous cartoons in paint-on-glass technique) and realized that we did not watch all his cartoons. So today we want to correct it and we will watch his another famous cartoon: “The cow”(Корова), made him in 1989 in his famous technique paint-on-glass. “The cow”(Korova) was nominee for Oscar in 1990. So let’s watch one more beautiful, sad and wise masterpiece by Aleksander Petrov:

Today we are watching a cartoon made by one of most favorite fairy-tales of my childhood: Caliph Stork (Калиф Аист)! This cartoon was made in USSR in 1981 by director Valery Ugarov. Plot of this cartoon is a little bit different from original W.Hauff‘s tale. This cartoon is good for everybody: for kids, their parents and grand-parents!

Russian Video: Laughter and Grief by the White Sea!

Russian Video from Russia is back to our Movies for the weekend. Today we are watching a very interesting and unusual full-length Soviet cartoon “Laughter and Grief by the White Sea” (Смех и горе у Бела моря), 1987. It’s made by stories of two Russian folklorists and writers Boris Shergin and Stepan Pisakhov. It’s a great collection of Russian Pomors‘ (Russian settlers and their descendants on the White Sea coast) fairy tails.
