Russian Video: Svyatki – Fortune Telling Time in Russia!

Today we’ll find out everything about fortune telling on Svyatki (Holli Days). Russia Today made a good video on this.

You will see:
Shadow fortunetelling
Candle and wax fortunetelling
Boot fortunetelling

…and even more.

But remember we in Russia do this fortune telling at Svyatki only.

Svyarki in Russia lasts two-week feast between Orthodox Christmas on January 7 and Epiphany on January 19.

Russian Kulich (Sweet Easer Bread) and Easter Eggs in Russia!

You can buy Kulich at any corner!Russia is preparing to celebrate Easter! It’s impossible to imagine Russian Easter without Kulich (or people also call this Easter Bread “Paskha”). Now you can buy Kulich at any corner. And today we are watching a short video how they make such Kuliches – I think it’s interesting!

“As a symbol of life, an egg goes back to pagan traditions,” explains Anna Yakovleva from Moscow’s House of the Icons museum. “But it’s also part of Christianity, symbolizing Christ’s resurrection. So when decorating them, the artists use the themes of spring, joy, beauty and rebirth.”

The 8th of March in Russia!

Everybody in Russia loves the 8th of March holiday! Women love it because that is our holiday and men love it because they love us and this holiday helps them to be men even more.

Women have fun to congratulate each other and men try to make their women happy. They are really smart they know that if you make woman happy she will try to do her best to keep you happy also.

I did not know what video to show you for this holiday, but one of my Russian readers sent me this one and I am happy to share this video with you!

Nobody in Russia remembers the historical roots of the holiday. For all Russians that is Day of Spring and Female’s beauty (in all aspects).

Happy the 8th of March!

Russian Video: Farewell Maslenitsa, Hello Spring!

Hello,

Last Sunday we said Good bye to Maslenica and met the First day of Spring! I found a very good home-made video about the Farewell to Maslenitsa. This video was made a year ago when the last day of Maslenitsa was the 8th of March (The International Day of Women. A very important holiday in Russia). So now you understand why women and girls got tulips in the video. You don’t need my comments for this video any more. It’s just excellent, one of the best home-made videos what I ever watched.

Best wishes and maybe to have picnic next Sunday would be a good idea?

Russian Video: Ice Swimmers (Моржи) in Russia!

Hello,

Today we continue watching unusual people! Have you ever swam outdoor in winter? I, never. But in Russia we have people who do it regularly, we call them моржи (морж – walrus). They really believe that ice swimming is good for them, so do I. I believe that for them it’s possibly good but not for everybody. But let’s better watch this documentary:

Do you know some ice swimming lover? Do you think to swim in ice-cold water is good for you? for everybody?

Have a good day!

Russian Video: Russia meets Maslenica!

Hello,

This year Kyle’s already written a good article about Russian Maslenica (Maslenitsa). I would call his article encyclopaedia of Russian Maslenica. Yes, this week Maslenica came to Russia – a week – feast before Easter Lent. But before you go to read all about Maslenitca I want you to watch this beautiful video what shows you some Russian folk traditions for this season of year called Maslenitsa. It’s just made me smile:
